Abstract
Fibrocystic breast disease(F.B.D.) is a term used to described a number of non cancerous cellular disorders of the breast.
In severe cases, the discomfort associated with F.B.D. may interfere with the patient¢¥s lifestyle and make the patient emotionally debilitating concerned about cancer.
And so, it is important to rule out threat of cancer and to alleviate those symptoms of F.B.D. But until the introduction of Danazol, there was no specific therapy for F.B.D.
The use of Danazol in F.B.D. came under investigation when researcher¢¥s conducting clinical trials for endometriosis reported that symptoms of F.B.D. were reduced or eliminated during Danazol therapy.
A clinical trial of Danazol was undertaken for 5 months in 12 patients with F.B.D. at our department.
As a result, partial or complete relief of breast pain, tenderness and modularity occurred in all patients studied except two. The one was treated with excision of mass and the other was lost after 5 months follow up study.
So we concluded that Danazol is an effective drug for elimination of symptoms and signs in the treatment of F.B.D.
